The Legend of Death
There is no doubt that this book focuses on death on all levels. I think the most interesting aspect of death that the author discusses in Fight Club is the death of self in order to finally live. The whole idea that you have to destroy yourself in order to live a true life makes sense on a twisted sort of level. It’s almost like you have to lose everything in order to understand how to truly live.
Tyler idea of becoming a legend confuses me. I understand that he wants to become a legend by destroying this certain history, but isn’t he in fact replacing it with his own??? Isn’t he just substituting the general idea of history with his own egotistical view? It’s almost like Tyler is a modern day Hitler.
Tyler almost seems to contradict himself in the way he acts. Is this just the two sides of the character battling each other? I feel like reading the first part of this book has left me with more questions than answers, but maybe that’s the point.
